We have
joined a small motley crew of adventurers who decided to attempt to cross into Iceland and then sail on to Greenland and Vinland to look for riches rumored about. If possible, to trade for: if not- to take by force. And so it came to pass that a small party and the unaccounted for followed suite in the exploration of the new lands.

Talivaldis Sturaisman (Talis, Group Leader)
Talivaldis was born in the town of Jersika, Lettgalia (present day Latvia), by the river Daugava, which was a trade route from Birka to Constantinople. His parents, Antons and Aldona managed a small business venture, where Antons traded and sold his own jewellery for fine fabrics from far off lands.
Aldona was the seamstress. After Antons was killed by a raiding party of Semigallians, (a local tribe across the river), Talivaldis continued in his father’s artistry. After being widowed, and in search of love, Talivaldis followed women around the world until he reached the shores of Vinland. |

Iskjaldi Valdemarsson (Ilya)
Iskjaldi Valdemarsson was born in Uppsala to a carpenter and builder Valdemar Iilvarsson and his wife Tandis. At the age of four the boy was kidnapped by a raiding party of Gauths and sold at the market in Holmgard to a rich Rus merchant from Kiev who was trading anywhere from Birka to Prague to Constantinople.
Iskjaldi spent fourteen years in Kiev as a thrall taking care of the house and working in the warehouses. Occasionally he accompanied his master on trading trips to the East and West, where he served as interpreter, bodyguard and crewman. At the age of nineteen he discovered his family still lived in Uppsala and contacted them.
He found out that in addition to his brother Algmundr he also had a sister by the name of Ulldis. The family was able to pull together enough money to buy him off from the merchant. Using the knowledge of peoples and lands encountered on trips all over Europe, Iskjaldi went to Norway and joined a raiding party of the Danes that paid off well. At that time the news of discovery of Vinland far in the West reached Norway. |

I am Thorgard Andersson (Bill), son of Anders Guttormsson
and Sigrid Håkansdtr. I am the second of three sons. Håkan, and
Botulf are my brothers.
As the second son, I can inherit nothing of the family farm so I
have taken to being a Viking as a way to make my fortune. I
cannot inherit, so there is little choice. Besides, a fight with
my elder brother Håkan (during which I nearly killed him) has
had me
banished from the principality of Borg by my chief, Guttorm
Dagfinnsson, for ten years. I am declared outlaw in the
principality and can be killed on sight.
A few kinfolk have travelled south with me to the lands around
Bergen, in the south. We have a sturdy ship and 10 hands to crew
her. We have allied ourselves with Torsten Skeldulvsson, a local
chief in
the lands surrounding Bergen.
We will be sailing for the Celtic lands of Eire in the spring,
where I hope to reap much silver, gold, and other such wealth
from raiding.
I should like, also, if opportunity presents itself, do some
trading with the Frisians or the Jutes. I can double my wealth
by returning to Bergen with many trade goods to sell.
